La Habana Blanks Almendares Behind Cruz Thursday, July 19th , 1888 La Habana Rojos starter Leónidas Cruz really did a number on the Almendares Alacranes today, shutting them out 3-0 on 7 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 1 walk and had 3 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said Almendares manager Ángel Rodriguez. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Cruz."
