Boston's Jim Whitney took the hill at South End Grounds 1894-1915 today in search of his 300th career win. The 39-year-old ace found it against the Cincinnati Reds.
After the historic victory, his manager told reporters, "I saw a tremendous sigh of relief when this thing was over. He was just looking to hug everyone in sight."
He worked 9 innings with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in the 6-5 victory, checking Cincinnati on 9 hits.
"It a big milestone in my career," admitted Whitney. "When you get close to it, you worry about it a lot. It's done now... and I can relax and enjoy it."
