The Boston Beaneaters picked up a win at South End Grounds 1894-1915, knocking off the Cincinnati Reds, 6-5. Starting pitcher Jim Whitney played a key role in the triumph. Whitney, now 20-12, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 5 runs. At 63-42, Boston is in second place in the National League.

When he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Frank Connaughton had a chance to be the hero. Cincinnati pitcher Mike Smith had other ideas. But with two outs, Connaughton hit a run-scoring single. The Beaneaters had themselves a dramatic win.
