The Santa Clara Leopardos picked up a win at Terreno de los Leopardos, knocking off the Santiago Soneros, 4-3. Starting pitcher Jorge Vélez played a key role in the triumph. The Leopardos now own a record of 13-15.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Emérico Gaona came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Santiago pitcher Oscar Gutiérrez, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Santa Clara on top, 4-3.

"I felt good even in the late innings," said Vélez after the game.
