Maidens End Rigby's Streak Saturday, August 21st , 1897 For 21 games in a row, Sam Rigby of the Cork Salmon had at least one hit. His day of reckoning finally came today at the hands of the Derry Maidens, who held him without a hit in 1 at-bat. Making matters worse for Rigby and the Salmon, the Maidens also won the ballgame by the score of 7-3. "Sam is a great clubhouse presence, and he has done incredible things on the field for us the last few weeks," Cork manager Ángelo Cuevas said following the game. "We're not going to forget all that just because of a bad day." This season Rigby is batting .282 with 3 home runs. His totals include 20 RBIs and 33 runs scored. |
