Álvarez Brilliant, Blanks Criollos Thursday, October 7th , 1897 Rincon Ingenieros hurler Petronio Álvarez was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Caguas Criollos, shutting them out 8-0 on 6 hits. "Petronio was very aggressive tonight," Rincon manager Cristóbal González said. "He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence." Through 9 innings, Álvarez tallied 5 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks. "He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well," losing manager Jorge Goris said. "Álvarez has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that off-speed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off." To date this year Álvarez has compiled a 33-10 mark with a 2.20 ERA in 44 starts.
