El Paso's Contrades Voted TLWA's #1 Skipper Thursday, August 23rd , 1888 Club officials have reported seeing Juan Contrades at the ballpark as early as 7 am. His dedication, coupled with a shrewd management style and a knack for knowing "who's hot and who's not" earned Contrades the Western Association Manager of the Year Award for 1888. "I guess you could say I pushed all the right buttons at the right time for the Finos to have the season we did. But keep in mind, too, that I also had a group of dedicated ballplayers who played their hearts out. I thank them for winning this award for me." There was much joy in El Paso this season. Their beloved Finos took first place in the Western Association Odessa Circuit, rounding out the year with a 54-42 record. |
