Waco Moves on to Championship of Texas Wednesday, August 1st , 1888 The Waco Mammoths are one step closer to the Championship of Texas. The club prevailed 7-3 at Gulls Ballpark tonight to eliminate the Galveston Gulls and advance to the Championship of Texas. The Mammoths won the series by a 3-1 margin, with left fielder and series MVP Rafael Lung leading the way. "I'm proud of all the guys," Lung said. "This was a team effort, not just me." The Waco Mammoths will play against the El Paso Finos in the next round. El Paso won their series against the Wichita Falls Yardmen 3 games to 1.
