The Bayamo Rafagas overcame a good performance by Santiago shortstop Tomás Ruiz to knock off Santiago, 8-6, at Estadio de Santiago. Ruiz was 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Enrique Cantú, the winner, goes to 13-12. He allowed 6 runs on 11 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts over 7 innings. Orestes Romero locked down his 5th save.
With Bayamo leading 3-2 in the top of the third, Inocencio Carrasco hit a 2-run single off Santiago pitcher Fabián Mendoza. It put the Rafagas ahead 5-2.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Carrasco.
Bayamo currently is in second place in the Torneo del Oriente División de Santiago at 42-42.
