A 5-RBI performance from the 25-year old second baseman Alex Powell helped the Cardiff Arcadians beat the Newport Stevedores, 8-6. The Arcadians are now 14-16, while the Stevedores fall to 13-17.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Francis Morley was at the plate when Cardiff scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Arcadians to go in front, 5-4.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Powell told the Cardiff Bulletin.
