The Belfast Bards did just enough to secure a victory over the Derry Maidens, 6-5, at Maidens Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Jay Smith. Smith went 11 innings to notch the win. He scattered 13 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 6-1. The loss drops Derry to 8-10.

The outcome might have been different for Belfast, had it not been for Oliver Saville, the 1894 Head Boy winner . Saville stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put Belfast up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 6, including 1 double and 1 single.

"I still think this team can play even better," Saville told the Belfast Daily News.
