Behind a solid performance from catcher Jeremy Martin, the Galveston Gulls defeated the Waco Mammoths, 11-8. Martin was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Gulls. Picking up the win was Jerry Trowsdale. He went 8.2 innings, allowing 8 runs on 13 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 3. Early on, the Gulls, at 11-4, have excelled.

Byron Lindstrom wielded some clout for Galveston. The third baseman had a 3-run home run in the bottom of the fourth for the Gulls. It put his team ahead, 6-3, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Lindstrom was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
