Reds Go Down to Defeat, 3-2
The Chicago Colts eked out a 3-2 win versus the Cincinnati Reds at West Side Grounds 1894-1915. Nobody did more than pitcher Allen Pitts. He was terrific. Pitts, now 27-13, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The win gives Chicago a season record of 78-44.

One of the clutch hits for Chicago came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with two out, Hugh Duffy, who led the NL in RBI with 106 in 1890, hit a 2-run single to put the Colts up, 3-0. For the game, the left fielder was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.

"Sometimes a win comes easy," Duffy told the Chicago Citizen. "And sometimes you have to scratch and claw."
