Cincinnati Mettle Tested in Tight 9-8 Win
The Cincinnati Reds topped the New York Giants, 9-8, with catcher Jack Boyle playing a big role. Boyle went 2 for 4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Reds in the win. Cincinnati reliever Ice Box Chamberlain was the winner. His record is now 2-3. Jack Taylor took the loss. Cincinnati, at 59-51, occupies 5th place in the National League.

When he came to bat in the bottom of the 11th, Bug Holliday had a chance to be the hero. New York pitcher Jack Taylor had other ideas. But with two outs, Holliday reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run. The Reds had themselves a dramatic win.

"Winning is the only objective," said Holliday after the game.
