Giants Snag 4-2 Win
|
The New York Giants defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-2, at National League Park 1895-1909 today. Leading the charge for New York was pitcher Jesse Burkett. He threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball. Burkett, now 8-18, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The win gives the Giants a record of 24-57.
Lefty Johnson made it 4-2 in favor of New York when he delivered a 2-run single. It came with two out in the top of the eighth. The Giants went on to win.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Philadelphia manager Jamie Perrone. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
