Ashley Watts Wins Number 150
|
His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Ashley Watts did something even better -- the 35-year-old Cardiff Arcadians star has now won 150 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.
He joined that exclusive club today at Copper Lords Park by whipping the Swansea Copper Lords 2-1, holding them to 10 hits in 9 innings while chalking up 3 strikeouts and 4 walks.
In the postgame interview, the modest Watts said, "It's special to win 150 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."
Since his debut, Watts has marked up 150 wins and 122 losses and fashioned an ERA of 2.45. He has fanned 1420 batters while pitching 2454.2 innings.
