Getting a good performance from pitcher Jesse Burkett, the New York Giants defeated the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, 6-4. Burkett threw 9.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the Giants. The Bridegrooms, now 4-8, continue their poor start.

New York took a 6-4 lead on Willie Clark's 2nd double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Clark hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Brooklyn pitcher Larry Corcoran shaking his head.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Clark told the New York Chronicle.
