The Carolina Gigantes outlasted the Loiza Vejigantes in an extra-inning thriller.

Loiza got a terrific game from right fielder Miguel Hernández. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Carolina, 6-5. Hernández went 4-6 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The save went to Raúl Zavala, number 2 for him.

Carolina used the clutch hitting of Alfredo Infante to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Gigantes the lead, 4-3. For the game, Infante had 2 singles and 1 double in 6 at-bats.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Carolina manager Julián Febus.

Carolina, at 20-21, sits in first place in the Liga Hostos Metro Este.
