Solons Win Close Shave, 10-9
The Columbus Solons and Louisville Colonels completed their game despite the rain.

The Columbus Solons had to overcome a big game from Louisville first baseman Tom McCreery to leave Eclipse Park II with a victory. And they did, winning 10-9. McCreery went 3-5 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. The save was credited to James Burke, his 1st.

Columbus used a timely hit from Jackie Hayes to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Solons ahead, 10-9. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"It's good to win," Hayes told the Columbus Today. "I like to have fun doing it."

The Solons, with just their 8th win so far in 1897, have yet to catch fire.
