The Caguas Criollos overcame a fine performance by Barranquitas right fielder Columbano Rubio to defeat the Proceres, 9-7, at Parque de los Criollos. Rubio was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Caguas reliever Erón Bautista picked up the win, raising his record to 3-0. Ricardo Hernández was tagged with the loss. Caguas, at 8-27, occupies third place in the Liga Hostos Valle del Turabo.

Illán Vasques hit a run-scoring triple off Ricardo Hernández in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Criollos in front, 8-7. Vasques had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Vasques, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
