Montaneses Get One-Run Win at San German
Crowds lined up early in front of Parque de los Atléticos, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1897 Liga Nacional Puertorriquena season. On the mound was Marcial Hernández for the visiting Utuado Montaneses and Raúl González for the hometown San German Atleticos. In a spirited contest, the Montaneses pulled out the win, defeating the Atleticos by the score of 6-5. Especially impressive was Amérigo Zúñiga. Marcial Hernández, the winning pitcher, is now 1-0. He went 9 innings, allowing 5 runs on 12 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 2.

Early in the game, Zúñiga had a run-scoring double for Utuado. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Montaneses on top, 2-1.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Zúñiga told the Utuado Bulletin.
